Kanye West’s Nike Air Yeezy 2, Released June 6th 2012

Get you chair or tent ready if you're really about that sneaker camp-out life. Kanye West's ridiculously anticipated signature sneaker, the Nike Air Yeezy II, will be officially released on June 9th.

According to a press release from Nike, the Air Yeezy II's outsole is based on the Nike Air Tech Challenge II tennis sneaker and its upper is inspired by cross trainers.

There's absolute function at the Air Yeezy II's core.Unnecessary padding was eliminated, and the foot-hugging tongue and plush collar are both comfortable and breathable. Fit was essential to the design with the goal to make the shoe slimmer than the original by tailoring it to Kanye West's foot. The collar was also lowered to allow for greater movement.

An obsessive approach to materials results in a luxurious mix of leather, rugged ballistic nylon, and soft nubuck. Concealed but opulent details reference ancient civilizations, including a loop strap with hieroglyphics that spell out 'YZY.' Each screw on lace aglet is obelisk shaped, and the anaconda texture is echoed on the eyelets and leather lace toggle that carries the Roman numeral 'II.'

The Diamond Jubilee River Pageant

An estimated 1,000,000 spectators lined the banks of the Thames in central London to witness a spectacular flotilla of more than 1,000 boats to mark the Queen's diamond jubilee.

The flotilla reflected Britain's maritime heritage and formed a seven-mile long procession of ships, historic vessels, steamboats, barges and passenger ships.

Alexander McQueen - Who wore it best??

If the Duchess of Cambridge's pillarbox red dress by Alexander McQueen looks familiar, that's because Kim Kardashian and Tulisa Contostavlos both wore similar versions of the dress last summer. 

Kate's outfit is virtually identical apart from the addition of long sleeves, which are saved from being boring by a nice, almost Balmain-esque structured shoulder. While we're not convinced Kate's look for the boat pageant was exactly inspiring, it must sort of be like dressing for your nan's birthday party - you can only be so risqué. And hey, she earns massive brownie points for having a perfect blowdry in the soggy, frizz-inducing weather. But who do you think wore it best? Kim's necklace makes the outfit look a bit fierce but is unfortunately let down by those Wag-tastic snakeskin heels, while even an on-trend fishtail plait can't save Tulisa's ensemble - teamed up with German barmaid-meets-dominatrix heels.

Solar-Powered Floating Island...

OK, we’ve seen concepts like this for years now – round floating retreats complete with a transparent room in the belly to see all the fish swim by. The idea is certainly appealing considering the fact that the world’s rising oceans make on-shore resorts a bit tenuous. Puzzolante takes the issue of raising oceans more seriously with his interpretation, as the SFR is a fully self-supporting design. The ship features a thin-film solar skin applied to a lightweight balsa-reinforced fiberglass hull. The round shape of the vessel provides constant exposure to the sun, feeding batteries during daylight hours to supply clean energy through the night.


The interior skin is also layered in dye-sensitized thin-film PV to absorb artificial light at night, creating a 30mm vacuum with the outer layer. While original, this setup is both extraordinarily expensive and impractical – but hey we’re on vacation.


The 110 square meter deck provides plenty of room for private amenities for six guests. The interior is cleverly laid out to provide both quiet niches and grand views. For instance, the attached baths have a space-saving water closet hanging off the tub. The core of the space is a large kitchen and bar, with a center spiral staircase leading down to the observation bulb. The lowest room lets guests indulge in a bit of extreme underwater tourism.
