BirdBangerNYC are now the proud new sponsors for Muay Thai Boxer, Dean Blunt. Muai Thai is a combat sport of Thailand that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. This physical and mental discipline which includes combat on shins is known as "the art of eight limbs" because it is characterised by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees, shins, being associated with a good physical preparation that makes a full-contact fighter very efficient!
We were in Dean's corner for his recent fight, where he represented his new Sponsors, BirdBangerNYC and we caught up with Dean after the fight!
Check out the interview below:
1. How long have you been doing Muay
Thai?
I've been doing Muay Thai around five or six years my first fight was October 2014 and I have been competing ever since.
2. What made you want to take up Muay Thai in the first place?
I started off by attending a Thai boxing fitness class at my local gym and really enjoyed it. So I decided I wanted to learn a bit more. I searched for local Muay Thai gym in my area (Dunstable) and came across Kaang Raang Muay Thai gym where I have trained ever since.
3. How many fights do you have under your
belt so far?
My current professional record is 7-0-0
5. Do you ever get nervous before a
fight?
I believe everyone gets nervous for fights and if you don't you probably don't want it that bad. Nerves are a very normal thing and motivates you to train hard and stay focused.
6. How did you and Donald Carmichael,
owner/creator of BirdBangerNYC, first meet?
Me and Donald Carmichael met through a very good friend and previous work colleague.
7. What's your opinion on the apparel
that BirdBangerNYC have sent you so far?
I absolutely love it. the quality, the fitting the designs.
8. Do you have a favourite piece from the
BirdBangerNYC collection so far?
My favourite piece from the bird banger range would have to be the whole snap back range. I've always found hats to be very hit and miss. Even adjustable caps just don't fit well and look good but BirdBangerNYC have really nailed with fitting and dope designs.
9. What is your advice for anyone wanting
to take up Muay Thai
as a sport or profession?
The best advice I could give to someone who is considering taking Muay Thai is just go for it, whether it is just to tone up and lose a bit of weight, compete professionally or maybe just to take up a new hobby. You won't regret it. It's so much fun, most of my closest friends I have met through Muay Thai it's a great sporting community.
10. Is Muay Thai for everyone and anyone or do you
have to be a specific kind of person to get into it?
Muay Thai can be for absolutely anyone all ages, all levels of fitness all walks of life.
11. Are there any classes for
kids/beginners/adults to start getting in to Muay Thai?
There is usually always a Muay Thai gym everywhere you go now a days. The sport has really come along way with a lot of interest so just have a little search for Muay Thai gyms in you're area. To see what it's all about visit Kaang Raang Muay Thai gym or find it on Facebook
12. What's next for Dean Blunt?
In two weeks time I will be fighting for the I.S.K.A four nations title and then three weeks after that, I will be fighting for the B.I.K.M.A English title against the number 2 independently ranked 72kg fighter!
Thanks Dean, we wish you the best of luck for your next fight, we'll be there!
